Paris Notre Dame
As one of the most famous landmarks in the world, the Notre Dame cathedral stands tall among the Parisian rooftops. I chose to paint this view from the Pompidou Center because it clearly shows the relationship of the cathedral to the city. In contrast to the weathered roofs and iconic chimneypots of Paris, the church rises with beauty and strength. Years ago I spent several hours at Notre Dame soaking in the atmosphere and sketching the architecture. I had no idea that the architectural design could defend the structure even against fire. I'm glad to know that Notre Dame is standing and will rise tall again.
